2. How did I get here?

I’ve been a stay at home mom now for 2 years while working on my bachelors degree and teacher licensure. In that time I had my youngest and became a mother of four. In that time my 2yo was diagnosed with autism and began a series of therapies. In that time my one year old was diagnosed with an abnormal gait and is now in physical therapy. In that time we welcomed two pups into our family. In that time we bought our first house. In this time, we have all been struggling to navigate a global pandemic and find our new normal.

For me our new normal is homeschool. Now, officially known as Kay Academy. In the last few months therapy going virtual has led to me providing speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and ABA therapy at home under the virtual guidance of professionals. In the last few months, I have not only had to be a student, but also a teacher to my kids, all virtually, while juggling the fear of my husband being an essential employee in the hospital each week. These transitions weren’t without tears, fears, and tough times. But as I settle into what it means to be an autism mom, a stay at home mom, a homeschool teacher, and a full time student, we have grown into a place of thankfulness and greater understanding.

It won’t be a perfect journey and it won’t be easy, but in my heart I know it will be worth it. As I embark on this journey, I wanted to continue to share activities and lessons with others in a more formal way as well as share the struggles, resources, and an honest look into our lives. The good, the bad, and educational. In order to do this I created this blog to share with you all. I hope that you will like, subscribe, and share. I hope that if you take the time to walk with us as we navigate our new normal that it will help you navigate yours.
